Wild Flower: Slot Overview
2020 was a productive year for Australian developer Big Time Gaming, which saw the team release a slew of new mechanics such as Megaclusters, Megaquads, and Megapays. Despite evidence of a studio constantly dreaming up new ways to entertain an insatiable gambling audience, the new game mechanics just didn’t fire quite like Megaways. For critics, this was proof that some of the BTG magic was wearing off. To be fair, Megaways wasn’t an instant hit either, so perhaps final judgement should be reserved until we are several games deep.
That brings us to Wild Flower, which is an instantly recognisable BTG slot due to its similarities with previous releases. In fact, BTG themselves state Wild Flower 'follows in the footsteps of Danger! High Voltage, The Final Countdown and Lil’ Devil.' This isn’t some timid filler which tries to imitate hits of the past though. Like Victor Frankenstein, Wild Flower combines parts of other games to bring to life a wholly new creation.
Speaking of earlier titles, Lil’ Devil is possibly the first game that springs to mind when Wild Flower leaps up on screen due to its similarly styled 6-reel, 4,096 win ways reelset. The background is a little random, alternating colours in an outdoor snowy forest scene where the moon hangs huge in a clear night sky. A backing story describes a never-ending winter caused by an eternal frost curse. It’s the player’s job to break through the ice and snow by lifting the curse, thereby letting Wild Flowers bloom once more. The story’s thoroughly enjoyable weirdness also gets a kick of adrenaline when the audio fires up. Like Lil’ Devil, Big Time Gaming has once again teamed up with British Rockers The Cult who has contributed music to the project. On the surface, Wild Flower might sound like a nightmare of mismatched items, but roll it all together and magical things can happen.
Available on any device, Wild Flower allows players to make wagers of 20 p/c to $/€20 per spin. Statistically, you can’t fault what Wild Flower does, provided you’re a gambler who appreciates a highly volatile math model, which is considerably higher than its sibling slot Danger High Voltage. The RTP is certainly respectable at 96.52% - 96.59%, while potential is enough to make all but the biggest slot sit up and take notice (we'll get to that).
Wins hit when at least three of a kind land adjacently from the leftmost reel. On the low side, we get 9-A royals, while higher pays consist of icons such as pentagrams, paws, wolves, and mysterious red hooded witches. There is a touch of the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood going on here, in an updated adult form.
Wild Flower: Slot Features
Wild Flower provides a ton of hard-hitting features, including reactions, two free spins games and their mega free spin variants. Helping complete wins are 2 wilds symbols, appearing on any of the middle 4 reels. Both are full reels wilds, substituting for all symbols except the scatter. The difference is that ice wilds have no multiplier, while flower wilds multiply all wins they are part of by x8. More than one flower wild used in a win multiplies their values for greater results.
Landing 3 or more regular scatter symbols triggers free spins of which there are 2 types to choose from:
- Multiplier Ladder Free Spins - starts with 12 free spins. Each reaction win during this feature move you along a multiplier ladder by +1. Landing 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters retrigger 8, 12, 16, or 20 free spins. Unlimited retriggers are possible
- Sticky Wild Free Spins - Starts with 7 free spins. Before this round starts, 1 royal symbol is randomly selected to be the sticky wild. Whenever this symbol lands on reel 2-5, it turns wild and is locked into position on the reels for the duration. When a reel is filled with wilds, 3 more free spins are added.
Now, if free spins are triggered using a mega scatter symbol on reel 6, players may select mega versions of the previous 2 features:
- My Heart Beats Faster - the mega version of the multiplier ladder free spins. When a wild is used in a win in this version, it makes the next wild display a progressive multiplier. There are 12 sets of wild multipliers, and if they reach the highest level of x500, x600, x700, or x800, they stay there for the rest of free spins. If wilds appear but do not substitute in a win, no increment occurs.
- The Most Beautiful Thing - the mega version of sticky wild free spins. If a sticky wild lands on top of an existing sticky wild, it turns into an x2 sticky wild. Landing another one on top of that transforms it into an x3 sticky wild. Maxing this feature out means you’ve got an insane 12x12x12x12 wild bank blowing up wins.
Wild Flower: Slot Verdict
Wild Flower will quite possibly add fuel to critics’ fire who feel BTG’s creativity is on the wane (which was said about Lil' Devil too, yet went on to become a massive hit). For the rest though, Wild Flower is a phenomenal follow-up, built in the tradition of former hits such as Danger! High Voltage, The Final Countdown and, of course, Lil' Devil. Sure it’s not an entirely new performance, yet like all great games that follow in others’ footsteps, Wild Flower takes the best bits of what came before, and expands them up the yin-yang.
With so much firepower rammed into its bonus rounds, particularly mega versions, it would have been obscene to back such stunningly high multipliers with weak or middling potential. Wild Flower completely avoids this issue. Base game wins are impressive enough at 46,100x the bet, but are nothing compared to free spins where wins as high as 114,000x are possible in a single spin. After seeing footage of Lil’ Devil annihilate any expectations of what people thought it could achieve, a figure like this is bound to pique interest for hordes of glory hunters.
Big Time Gaming’s break from trying to revolutionise the industry by designing new ‘Mega’ prefaced features, and transforming classic older games instead has paid off, resulting in a stunning slot. Combining high octane rock music from The Cult with massive numbers, provides a fresh vitality that was missing from a something like Chocolates. The end product feels as destined to thrill fans of BTG’s classic, big volatile big potential games, as it is to star in future highlight reels.

Wild Flower successfully pulls in elements of several Big Time Gaming hits, sure to thrill fans of high volatile, high potential gaming.
