Temple of Paw: Slot Overview
Swedish game provider Quickspin has, over the years, shown a certain propensity for virtual journeys to Asia to theme quite a few of its slots. The trips often turn out quite well, with past releases including playable slots such as Eastern Emeralds (plus a Megaways version), Sakura Fortune and Sakura Fortune 2, and today, we return for a slot titled Temple of Paw. Let's let Quickspin tee it up: 'Deep in the heart of the Asian mountain ranges, at the top of the stairs of the Temple of Paw sits your symbol of luck and fortune, the Maneki cat, Miso.'
A couple of things to unpack there. Temple of Paw is set in a feline-focused game world where cat statues adorn the background, and one of those waving maneki-neko cats appears on the scatter symbol. This must be Miso, presumably. Temple of Paw's 5x3, 20-payline game grid is situated within a pagoda-style building, with a tidy garden, including a water feature making up much of the rest of the view, though the 'Asian mountain ranges' were conspicuous by their absence. Whilst not the most striking Asian slot ever seen from Quickspin, Temple of Paw possesses a visual harmony which isn't sore on the eyes.
Temple life might be one of peace and harmony, but Temple of Paw is actually a highly volatile slot, available in several RTP models. The default RTP is 96.01%, with a fairly even distribution between base game and free spins. The lowest bet permissible in Temple of Paw is 20 c while its upper limit is $/€100, and a free spins bonus buy is available, as well.
Green dominates the paytable, where the low-pay clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades pay 1.25 to 5 times the bet for a 5-of-a-kind hit. Then, the premiums are good luck knots, red envelopes, 3 coins, and a coin purse worth 10 to 75 times the bet. Temple of Paw's wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Cat scatter. Wilds land on all of the game's reels, so it can make wins of itself worth up to 125x the bet for a 5 wild winning combination.
Temple of Paw: Slot Features
Wins in Temple of Paw are boosted by tumbles as well as an increasing multiplier available in the base game and during the Pawsperity Free Spins Bonus round. Free spins can be naturally triggered or bought.
Cascaeds & Multiplier
During gameplay, winning symbols are removed from the reels and replaced by symbols dropping downwards from above. If a new win happens after the symbols drop, the cascading event repeats. In the Temple base game, the win multiplier increases by +1 for each winning tumble. The multiplier resets between spins in the base game.
Pawsperity Free Spins
Getting 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatter symbols activates 7, 10, 15, or 22 Pawsperity Free Spins, respectively. Before Pawsperity Free Spins begin, players can gamble what they have won for the chance to get an extra scatter on a segmented wheel. It is possible to gamble until all 6 scatters have been won or the entire free spins have been lost. Players are free to skip the gamble by collecting and playing their free spins.
Now, during this bonus feature, the multiplier increases by +1 for each winning symbol that is removed. The multiplier does not reset between free spins. It is possible to retrigger the round by landing 3, 4, or 5 scatters, thereby winning an additional +3, +5, or +7 free spins, respectively.
Buy Feature
By paying 100 times the bet, players can buy Pawsperity Free Spins. The feature triggers with 3+ scatter symbols, and the round functions the same as if naturally triggered.
Temple of Paw: Slot Verdict
Quickspin certainly can't be accused of being one of those studios that drops a new slot every other day. The team apparently likes to take their time to get everything just so. Only mentioning this because it felt like quite a lot of time had passed between Temple of Paw and the last game we reviewed from Quickspin, which was, *checks notes, Cash Truck 3 Turbo. Wow, yeah, a very different game indeed, and not trying to sound mean, but Temple of Paw made a fraction of the impact its heavy-loaded, on-the-road, hold 'n win, Money Train challenger did.
One reason is that Temple of Paw looks a bit plain, pleasant, but plain. Sounds are a different story, though, and special mention must be made of the game's music. The tune meanders nicely along like a babbling brook before getting insanely dramatic at times as if a full choir and orchestra are hitting peak performance. As for Temple of Paw's performance, the gameplay was okay without being great. The base game is pretty average, but free spins are boosted by the multiplier growing by +1 for each winning symbol rather than each tumble, the way it can do in ELK Studios' slot Propaganda, which Temple of Paw brought to mind. Oh yeah, and the multiplier does not reset between free spins either, which is always a boon. Decent multiplier values were achieved during the test session, and retriggers weren't hard to get either. Big wins remained somewhat elusive, though, most of the time, and one reason appeared to be the difficulty in landing premium symbol winning combinations.
With a max win of 7,333.95x the bet and mentally picturing a chunky higher-paying winning line matching up with a chunky multiplier, Temple of Paw no doubt has the ability to get the blood running hot. Still, Temple of Paw came across a little bit mid when compared to Quickspin's past history of Asian-themed slots.
Fair
A twist to the way an increasing multiplier bonus round usually functions might be reason enough to give Temple of Paw a shot.
