Eternal Clash drops big symbols and Sword wilds in the base game, but it's not till Showdown Spins trigger or are bought that the real buffs come out to play.

Big Symbols

When a reel is completely stacked with symbols of the same character, they all transform into one big symbol. Big symbols count as 4 individual symbols and have a multiplier of x2, which is applied to all of the wins the big symbol is part of.

Sword Wild

A 1x4 full reel Sword symbol may appear on the grid. The Sword is wild, substituting every other symbol except scatters. It may have a multiplier of x2 to x5, which is applied to all wins it is part of.

Showdown Spins

Hitting 3 or more scatters on the same spin triggers the Showdown Spins feature which start with 1,000 health points, plus 500 additional health points for each triggering scatter beyond 3 up to a maximum of 2,500. For the feature, the grid has 6 reels; each reel can land either empty spaces, allied characters, enemy characters, or Swords of Power. Allies may land on the three leftmost reels, enemies on the three rightmost reels.

When only enemies are on the grid with no allies to fight, they remove health points from the health bar as indicated by their Attack Power value. When only allies are in view and no enemies land, their Attack Power value grows by +5. If allies and enemies are on the reels, they fight each other, removing Attack Power points equal to their opponent's Attack Power. When a character's Attack Power reaches 0, they are destroyed. Destroyed enemies award the cash value they display. The round ends when the health bar reaches 0 or the win cap is reached. Allied characters are Gaia possessing 50 Attack Power, Arcanos possessing 100 Attack Power, and Crimerra possessing 200 Attack Power. The baddies are:

• Shadow – 25 Attack Power, 5x-250x cash prize.
• Gillsbane – 100 Attack Power, 10x-500x cash prize.
• Infernix – 250 Attack Power, 25x-1,250x cash prize.
• Blazethorn – 500 Attack Power, 250x-10,000x cash prize.
• Corruptus – 700 Attack Power, 500x-10,000x cash prize.

Swords of Power have buffs that are applied to all allied characters present on the grid. The First Sword grants +50 Attack Power, the Second Sword grants +100 Attack Power and an x2 multiplier, while the Third Sword grants +250 Attack Power and an x5 multiplier. Characters buffed with multipliers apply the multiplier to the cash prizes of any enemies they destroy. Allied characters can be buffed several times.

Buy Feature

Players may buy Showdown Spins for 250x the bet from the Buy Feature. The RTP when using the bonus is 95.77%.

Eternal Clash: Slot Verdict

First off, it is refreshing to get an online slot dressed up in this sort of cartoon anime style that has nothing to do with Moon Princess or Starlight Princess or anything princess-y in general. Not that those sorts of slots don't have their place, but surely we've got enough of them to contend with for now? Also, no matter whether you like this particular style or not, it's hard to deny Eternal Clash is a unique slot. Maybe not so much in the base game. There, line wins, expanding symbols, etc., are fun but fairly regular, though the theme is eye-catching no matter the phase. However, activate Showdown Spins and Eternal Clash is a whole other story.

Prepare for a story finishing up on a good or a bad ending, though. Sometimes, enemies are present with no one to oppose them, so they end up doing a number on the health bar, and the feature petters out with a whimper. Or, allies might rain down, smash enemies, collect their cash prizes, and do some damage. Swords of Power are a positive boon, shame they didn't hit more often than they did, which was not very. When the combat is swinging a lucky player's way, Eternal Clash calls time at 12,000x the bet via its win cap.

Since Showdown Spins are such a unique centrepiece, it doesn't take a lot of imagination to envisage the feature buy taking a bashing in some quarters. Bonus rounds might be painfully ruthless and hard to trigger naturally (and the base game could be a slog), so buyer beware perhaps, but they've also got the ability to be quite exhilarating as well. So, even if Eternal Clash isn't your precise cup of tea, it's worth turning your collar up, tousling your hair and sharpening your blades to go a few demo rounds to see what it can do.
