Lenny’s desk is it’s Lenovo laptop box + a shoebox for the mousepad

Ever since I got Lenny, my Lenovo laptop, I have been using its box as my desk whenever I work in my bedroom. I just place it on top of my lap and I place Lenny on top of it. However, for the past few days, I find this setup inconvenient since my legs can’t move freely as it gets pressed with the weight of the laptop box + Lennys. And since I’ll be spending more time with Lenny from now on, I decided I better find a more suitable desk for the laptop.

And so the search began. I fell in love with Logitech’s Portable Lapdesk but it was too pricey. Then I thought of getting a bed tray. It was a good thing that my colleague mentioned that there are laptop desks sold at CDR King. She gave me the link of their official site and indeed there were a couple of laptop desks that fit my needs. After making phone calls at their branches in Ayala, SM, E-mall, Robinsons Cybergate and IT Park, I got hold of a list of the models available at each branch. After scrutinizing three designs at CDR King in SM, which was the closest branch to where I live, I decided to get the wooden Multifunctional Portable Laptop Desk with Cooling Fan with model # TM-ST03.

Multifunctional Portable Laptop Desk with Cooling Fan (Model # TM-ST03)

When I got home, I immediately unwrapped the package and started assembling the furniture.

I was amazed at how easy it was assembling the desk. I thought it would be difficult but it wasn’t. Except for my fingers getting bruised from tightening the screws, the installation was so easy. It took me an hour though to finish assembling the Portable Laptop Desk since I had to switch the bolts for the mousepad.

Lenny’s new desk; timer showing how long I assembled the furniture

Although this is not a foldable desk, I still love it! The 2 built-in cooling fans aren’t that great at all but at least it allows ventillation for the laptop. I had to use a book for my mousepad too since the optical mouse doesn’t work with the desk’s smooth surface. The screw which attaches the mousepad to the desk is also weak and might have the tendency to wobble.

What I love about this desk is that it has ample leg room. I can easily slide my legs underneath the table, which allows me to work conveniently with Lenny. It is also sturdy so I won’t have to worry about breaking it if I decide to get clumsy. At less than $15 (Php680), i think this Multi functional Portable Laptop Desk with Cooling Fan is already a great investment for those who’d want to work online in the comforts of their own bedrooms.

*sigh* yep! That’s right. I haven’t found the time to fix my desktop and I am using a borrowed laptop. Since the owner of the laptop has so much stuff to do, I can’t impose on using it, not unless it’s not being used. Right now, I am all set to buying one but I don’t have the budget yet. Actually, I still have a long way to go. My budget is somewhere around $650 and my Paypal account still shows $54. Toinks! I am trying my best not to spend my money in Paypal as I want to use the funds there to buy the laptop. I just hope I don’t get tempted into spending that amount.

Right now, all I can do is lament and think what laptop brand I should buy in case I need to buy one na. haaay…where did all the money go? tsk tsk tsk.

While waiting for my dad’s laptop to finish installing Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and around 27 more updates, I could no longer wait to open my desktop. I have been waiting for almost 4 hours so that I can get things done. I only have a cable modem and I can only plug my ethernet cable on 1 device since I don’t have a router. Then a thought came to my mind. I remembered that my mobile phone can act as a modem too. So after the long wait, I connected the USB cord of my phone to the computer and tried connecting. And the next thing I knew, I was connecting online! Yey! The speed wasn’t really that bad too.

I went to speedtest.net to check my speeds and here are the results on two different servers.

Although it was really low compared to the almost 0.8 Mbps download speed I get when I use my ISP’s connection, I was still getting a decent speed on my Internet connection thanks to the mobile modem capability of my phone. By the way, my Nokia N82 phone is powered by Smart Communications. I don’t have any idea how my bill will look like after doing this but I’m pretty sure that with my Consumable Plan, I won’t have to worry a thing. Besides, I seldom use my phone for anything.

I really wish I could have a wireless router so that I can connect from any place in our house. But I’ll have to buy my own laptop for this one too

P.S. I’m still typing this entry while connected to my mobile phone for my Internet access. The laptop still shows “Installing Service Pack: Stage 1 of 3 – 96% complete. Do not turn off your computer.” I guess I may have to wait a little bit longer before I can use my ISP’s connection again.

or not! LOL.

This is a part of my desk and although I’ve been trying to look for more pictures to display on the wall of my desk, I have only managed to display 1 picture…

clockwise: Dangling Sheep Jolly Mah, Whitey (the doggie stuffed toy), Moi, Ed, Audrey and flower potty

This picture was taken a year ago while Audrey and I were sent to Bacolod for some training. Ed visited us 1 weekend and joined us in our Goodbye/Graduation/Team Outing party at Dos Palmas.

Audrey and Ed are my partners in crime when it comes to blogging. As of this point, both of them have laptops already and I have yet to own one. When this happens, we’ll all raid cafe’s with Wi-Fi to burn the laptops while blogging/browsing. Of course we’ll ranscak the cake shelves of every cafe we’d come across. LOL. Audrey won’t mind having us consume her share of the cakes. She’s allergic to sweets you know.

took this picture last year too while Wena comfortably sat outside the streets of the Grand Palace

Both of my blogging crime partners were the ones who influenced me to blog. tsk tsk tsk. How can I resist when one sits beside my desk way back and just raves about her site while the other has a loud mouth convincing almost anybody to blog. Peace guys! Wena, is also the other person who influenced me to join their blogger world. hihihi

But as of date, I have never regretted any single moment of it all. Kool kool kool!

Payter!
