Halo-Halo at Julie’s Bakeshop for Php 55.00

Had a taste of this sweet dessert from Julie’s Bakeshop in IT Park last night. I’ve tasted this once, a month or two ago, so when a friend of mine asked me to share the halo-halo he ordered when he was in town, I declined saying I already tasted one. It was also a good thing that I didn’t accept his offer of sharing the halo halo since I think 1 serving wasn’t enough for him. He ate everything even to the last drop – except for the bowl of course. hehehe

Anyway, the halo-halo at Julie’s Bakeshop now is far different from what I tasted last time. The crushed ice in this one is super fine that you wouldn’t even recognize you’re eating ice. There are also a lot of ingredients on their halo-halo. Cindy also mentioned that the bowl where the Halo Halo was served looked like one of those serving bowls at the Modern Toilet Restaurant in Hong Kong.

I really fancied Chowking’s Halo-halo but when my friend tasted this one, he said this one’s better. I know now what he meant by that. But one thing I didn’t like about it though is that it’s too sweet. I have a sweet tooth but this one’s beyond the sweetness I could take. I still finished the whole bowl though.

with Cindy and Ed, fresh from their trip in Malaysia; Ed, showing us their photos while also waving at friends at the other table

Julie’s Bakeshop also serves budget meals. I frequently hang out here whenever I experience problems with my ISP at home. This is a great place if you are looking for cheap food and free wi-fi connection. And the best thing is that they are open from 11 am till 3am.

We went straight here after fetching the “tourists” in the airport after their Malaysian tour since they were looking for a place where they can eat anything except chicken + Ed’s need to plug his laptop, connect online and show the photos of their adventures. Thanks for the halo-halo treat Ed!

Julie’s Bakeshop is located that the ground floor of the eBloc building, also known as JP Morgan and Chase building.

Last Friday, I went with some folks from the office at one of Cebu’s famous dessert hangouts. We headed to The Walk before midnight and went straight to La Marea, in Asiatown IT Park, Cebu City. Since I’m a sucker for cakes and pastries, I had a hard time choosing among all those yummy-looking desserts. My two companions ordered the warm brownie cup while I ordered the white chocolate cup. What influenced my decision? The price, being P95 (less than 100) and the rest of them ordered the warm brownie, so I chose the other one instead.

Actually, La Marea is famous for its warm brownie cup and I still find it yummy despite its being too sweet. I didn’t enjoy eating the white chocolate one since the serving size was smaller compared to the warm brownie cup. The texture of the “white” brownie isn’t also that fine. Basta.. I didn’t like it. Good thing was my other companion failed to finish her whole brownie cup since it was too sweet for her tonsils so she asked me to help in finishing up the other half of her cup ( i finished my cup faster than the other two since my cup serving is 50% lesser than the warm brownie ciup). I immediately obliged, of course!

Everyday, I tell myself that I will start my diet to control my increasing weight due to my love for food. I even thought that with my new work schedule, I’d start an after six diet wherein I shouldn’t eat anything after the clock strikes at six in the evening. But if you get to be asked to have dinner at Casa Verde, who could ever resist those ginormous slices of baby back ribs. I just wonder if the term “baby” fits the description of their ribs though.

I only brought P100 with me when I went down the ground floor of our building to meet up with Ed and his brother Dan earlier. I am already broke and the payday is three days away so I need to budget my food allowance since I have to pay for my parking fees too. I thought we were just going to eat at Chowabungga, McDonalds, Jollibee or KFC but Dan was itching to swipe his card so after debating on whether to eat at Roma Mia, Casa Verde, Shakeys or Mocha Blends in SkyRise, Casa Verde won over. So off we went to The Walk.

This is what they call Bryan’s Baby Back Ribs…don’t bother asking who Bryan is coz I don’t have any clue This is what Casa Verde is famous for. The ribs are really huge and it could serve 2 individuals. Their side dish includes a choice of rice, carrots and corn, mashed potato and I think fries. Not really sure though. This is really a highly recommended resto to dine whenever you’re in Cebu as you will surely go gaga over their ribs.

Then here’s another yummy treat from Casa Verde, their Seafood pasta (cooked carbonara style). Within those pile of pasta, you can find shrimps, squid and mushrooms. Wait. When did mushrooms became a part of the seafood family? hahaha.

I hope that my mind would stop thinking about food for a while so that I don’t have to crave for good food all the time. That way, I can work on my diet for once. hehehe. I hope temptations would stay away from me for the next three months.

Just watched this movie last Sunday with my 2 cousins. The movie was ok. I liked it. My colleague told me that the CGI effects or something is really evident and I agree that it was especially on the scene where they landed on the desert. But as for the rest of the movie, everything was great. “Gijo” as how we fondly refer to the movie is really an action packed movie. Although there were times were you’d think that all the storyline were scattered with all the flashback from the lives of the different characters, it was still a great film.

My friend also asked me what I think of Channing Tatum and I said that he was ok but not really that impressive. I’d prefer to see him show some moves like the movie Step Up But he was kinda funny on his role on She’s the Man with Amanda Bynes. Well, come to think of it. He has been all over the movies I’ve seen but I really never noticed him apart from Step Up.

Oh well, what caught my attention was Sienna Miller. She was really pretty in the film and I kept trying to remember what movie she was in. It’s like it’s at the tip of my tongue. With some googling, I then discovered that she was one of the cast of Stardust where she played the role of Victoria, the girl whom Tristan fell in love with and promised to get the falling star they saw one night She also played the role of Francesca Bruni in the film Casanova, co-starring Heath Ledger.

After the movie, we went to grab some snacks at Flame It! and then I went to the office (on a Sunday) to finish some tasks. But I never really got to finish half of it since my good friend Debbie asked me to join her for a foot massage. She just got back from a 2-months training in Manila and I also couldn’t wait to meet her and catch up on things.

We went to Alibyo Spa in IT Park, Lahug and enjoyed a 1-hour foot massage. We were just chatting in the spa room while the masseur massage our legs and arms. We then went to Bo’s Coffee to munch some snacks. Then she drove me home since I need to give her the present she got from Daisy. She was the last person I had to give the “pasalubong” and when she left, I immediately sent a text message (even though it’s 2:30 in the morning…hahaha) to Daisy telling her that my mission is accomplished! I’m done being Santa Claus with the last gift turned over to its rightful owner

Will probably post pictures later.

Jacobo’s Bistro just opened at the Ground Floor of the Skyrise 3 Building in IT Park, Lahug, Cebu City.

Last Friday, one of my colleagues mentioned that they just had an eat-all-you-can breakfast at Jacobo’s for only P100 per head and that the food was really yummy. And since 2 of my colleagues and I were hungry at that time, we headed to Jacobo’s and checked out the place.

Jacobo’s Bistro is really not hard to find but for those who still manage to loose their way through IT Park, you can find the establishment at the back of Tara’s Cafe, still in SkyRise 3. So basically, Tara’s Cafe is located in front of the i1 building in IT Park and Jacobo’s is on the other side, facing the vacant green lawns of IT Park.

Jacobo’s Bistro has a different way of serving their EAT ALL YOU CAN BREAKFAST. To ensure that everyone consumes their food, they serve the food by batches. You have to order 1 meal first and consume it before going to the next one. You can do advance orders so that you won’t be left hanging or loose your appetite while they prepare the other meal. Another great thing about their Eat All You Can Breakfast is that you can share the food with your buddies. The no left-overs no sharing policy that other food establishments impose doesn’t work here, except for the no left-overs thingy. They serve free coffee and water and this is very ideal for those folks running on a tight budget. If you think you can’t consume the rice that goes along with each meal, you can just tell the service attendants not to serve the rice.

their menu and the other foods they serve

the free coffee

Danggit Bay

I have never seen so many Danggits served except here in Jacobo’s. “Danggit” is one of Cebu’s famous dried fish. Danggit is best paired with vinegar. You can dip the dried fish in the vinegar sauce before landing it in your mouth and you will feel the crunhy, yummy taste of this wonderful dish.

Crispy Pork Binagoongan w/ Eggplant

I love eggplants especially cooked with egg and there’s no doubt me liking this one. As for the Crispy Pork Binagoongan, I find it bland but with the shrimp (“bagoong”) paste, it’s taste is just right. This was the first meal I ordered.

Pancake w/ Bacon

I have really not tried this one properly sine I was already full when I ordered my second course . I only got a bite of a slice of the pancake topped with bacon and it’s yummy. The fresh mangoes are super delicious too. It seems that pancakes with syrup, bacon and mangoes blends well together. I have yet to try and indulge on this one soon.

Bangers and Egg w/ Potato

This was the second meal I ordered. I thought they were referring to Bangers as “bangus” or milkfish This meal includes a super huge sausage, tiny potatoes halved, fried and sprinkled with salt and scrambled eggs. I never liked scrambled eggs so I didn’t enjoy it. As for the potatoes and the suasages, thumbs up! Delicious!

a treasure chest

A tiny treasure chest is what the bistro uses to store the bill and you’d be surprised to see this tiny thing when you ask for your bill. This is really cool. How I wish I can steal one of these from the store

My other 2 companions ordered the other food featured here. We also ordered Adobo Hash and I failed to take a picture of it since my colleague dived into the pile immediately We were just tasting each order’s orders and the food were all delicious and the presentation of the dishes is quite something.

The store includes a 10% service charge so make sure to bring an extra P10, alright?

I’ll definitely go back to this store one of these days and try their other breakfast meals.

Jacobo’s Bistro opens their Eat All You Can Breakfast from 7:00 am till 10:00 am daily (Mon-Sun).
