Overlooking Carcar's Rotunda

I recently joined a group of bloggers on a free adventure to the famous island of Sumilon where the exquisite Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort is located. On our way to the island, we stopped over at Jollibee in the town of Carcar to feed our hungry stomachs. I wasn’t really that hungry though but since everything was free, I helped myself in. hehehe.

While waiting for the rest of the team to finish their breakfast,  I rolled up one of  the window blinds in “Jabee” and started clicking my cam as I took photos of the Carcar Rotunda. This is one of the visible landmarks of the town. Every time I travel south, this landmark reminds me of where I am and where I will be heading, whether deeper south or going back to the city.

It is also important to note that if you are traveling to Badian, Barili and neighboring towns, you must make a right turn after passing by the circle. But if you are headed to Oslob, where Sumilon Island is (just like us) you have to make sure you head to the other road (labeled Bato), where you had to pass by Carcar’s public market. This road also leads to Santander, the southern tip province of Cebu. There are towns along the way that have ports accessible to the nearby island of Dumaguete. I just forgot their names.

Don’t miss this marker

For those who doesn’t know yet, the town of Carcar is known as the Heritage City of Cebu since on this town, you will see Spanish and American-era houses and structures. Carcar is also famous for its shoes. If Manila has Marikina, Cebu has Carcar. Different shoemakers can be found in Carcar. In fact, there’s one factory in Carcar which built a giant shoe, like a shoe house. I have yet to visit that place.

Carcar is also home to native delicacies like ampao, bucarillo and chicharon. You can easily spot vendors all over the rotunda selling these delicacies to travelers who passes by Carcar. Carcar is also famous for their lechon (roasted pig). Actually, the whole province of Cebu is know to be the makers of the best lechon and the town of Carcar is not an exception. Every time we go on a trip, whether work related outings or travels with friends, we never miss the chance to pass by Carcar’s public market and buy lechon.

One of these days, I will schedule a trip to this town and check out the rich heritage that the town offers its travelers. I hope it’d be soon!

Leaving you with some of the shots I took of the rotunda.
