Before we went to Vigan, after our trip to Ilocos Norte, we decided that we had to make sure we stop over Juan Luna’s house in Badoc, Ilocos Norte. The friends we met in Laoag highly recommended we see the house of Luna. So we did. We guessed that since this was on the way to Vigan, it wouldn’t hurt if we make a side trip. But little did we know what was in store for us in Badoc.
On our way to Luna’s residence, we passed by the Marcos Museum and Mausoleum in Batac and we were relieved we chose Luna’s place over the mausoleum since the place was packed.
I think it was an hour or so before we finally reached our destination. Dropping off at their main road, we had to hike 50-meters to get to the house. The unimaginable happened. The museum was closed! Waaaaaaaaaaa
They are closed on Mondays. Logic tells us that maybe it was the house keeper’s time to rest since they open on Sundays…i dunno. That’s just our guess. We were not prepared for this. Although we couldn’t get in the main house, we didn’t waste our time in sulking about our misfortune and instead took pictures of the house and the statue of the painter.
Juan Luna was a Filipino painter in the late 19th century. The Spoliarium, his most famous piece won him a gold prize at the 1884 Madrid Exposition.

Juan Luna is of Spanish descendant or a Filipino? Even the museum has a really heavy Spanish influence in the build. Sorry to hear that the museum was closed for you & your bro that day. I really dislike it when such things happen to me too. Lol.

Abas, Juan Luna is of Filipino descent. He was one of the great heroes of the Philippine Revolution (to free ourselves from Spain) and one of the first internationally-recognized Philippine painters. To give you a brief history of the Philippines, our country was conquered by Spain and the Spaniards ruled the land for 300 years which explains the Spanish influence to our culture and architecture.
